Events Tanabe Hajime and his relation to Nishida Kitarō

January 23rd, 2026. 15:00 ~ January 24th, 2026. 17:00 JST

Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture Room 217 and online

The relationship between Tanabe and Nishida was undoubtedly complex and varied, and in any case one of the most productive from a philosophical point of view within the panorama of contemporary Japanese philosophy. In this workshop, based (but not exclusively) on Tanabe's essay “Seeking instruction from Professor Nishida,” we will attempt to investigate the meaning and significance of the encounter between these two conceptual worlds, so close and yet so far apart.
