From 24 to 26 March 1997 the Nanzan Institute held its tenth interreligious symposium on the theme, “What Does Christianity Have to Learn from Buddhism?” The papers and discussions are being edited for publication in both Japanese and English. What follows is an English version of the opening lecture to that symposium.
