This report was first published in Japanese as “Nijūisseiki o mukaeru Nihon shakai to shūkyō: Seimei rinri kara kōdō jōhōka to no kakawari made” ニー世紀をむかえる日本社会と宗教一 生命倫理から高度情報化とのかかわりまで in Gendai shūkyō 現代宗教 (volume 1, March 2001, pp. 230-39), a new journal produced by The International Institute for the Study of Religion. As one of the purposes of the Nanzan Bulletin is to provide information on the current state of religious issues in Japanese society, we received permission from the author to translate her report into English for our readers.
