The following report on “religion in the news” in Japan from late 2009 through 2010 is a partial translation of a report published in Japanese as 「現代日本『宗教』情報の氾濫――新宗教・パワースポット・葬儀・仏像に関する情 報ブームに注目して」in the 2011 issue of 『現代宗教』, a journal published annually by the International Institute for the Study of Religions. The data for this article is up-to-date as of the end of February 2011. Information on each topic was collected from the religious article database at the Religious Information Research Center of the International Institute for the Study of Religions. Tsukada concentrated on the second and the third sections, whereas Ōmi was responsible for the fourth and fifth sections. As in previous years, the authors have kindly consented to allow us to translate their report into English for publication in our Bulletin.
