Specialization: Buddhist Culture, Buddhist Art
My research examines the extent to which Buddhism was deeply embedded in the daily lives of people in ancient South Asia. In particular, I focus on the religious practices and artistic works associated with Maitreya, the Future Buddha, who has been widely venerated across Asia since ancient times and has long been in contact with Western culture. Using Maitreya as a point of entry, I explore the nature of the interactions between Buddhism and other religious cultures and regional traditions.
