Specialization: Film Studies, Visual Culture, and Italian Studies
My research investigates the representation of Italy as an imagined space through the lens of Japanese culture. I focus mainly on two case studies: an analysis of "Italia Mura," a theme park dedicated to Italy that was located in Nagoya but is no longer in existence, and a survey of the depiction of iconic Italian places in manga and anime in recent years. On a theoretical level, I aim to engage with the reflections of twentieth-century Japanese thinkers, writers, and artists who have contemplated and discussed the notion of spatiality.
